Matheus Leist: all set for the debut on Indy-500

  |

The youngest pilot on the grid, only 19 years old, did today the final practice for the 500 Miles – the Carburation Day – and now, his next appointment is running on Indy-500 next Sunday, when he starts on fourth row, being the fastest debuter.
Carburation Day, as is called the last day of training at the 500 miles, was ran today in Indianapolis and, now, the next appointment of the pilots is Indy-500, next Sunday, at 1pm (Brasilia time), with live broadcast on Band TV.
The race is historical for Matheus Leist. At age 19, the youngest pilot among the 33 pilots on the grid already had a remarkable part on trainings, by becoming the fastest first timer of all, getting a place on the fourth row, side by side with his experienced teammate AJ Foyt, Tony Kanaan.
“Today has been an important day to evaluate the car’s successes and we got to see that Tony’s way was so efficient, that it was faster than Carburation Day, so we’re confident for the race. It’ll be difficult to overtake on this track, all the pilots are talking about it, so more than ever it will be an Indy-500 full of patience and strategy”, says Leist.
In 2017, the youngest revelation for Brazilian motoring won his first race at the oval, on the traditional Indianapolis circuit, the preliminary of the 500 miles, the Freedom 100, valid for the Indy Lights championship. It was his first year competing in the USA after many titles in Brazil and also a title in Europe at the great English F-3 championship, which has had great champions such as Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet e Ayrton Senna.
“This has been an incredible week, the experience of competing on the most traditional race in the world, with over a hundred years, had been unforgettable. We’ve had many press events, with the sponsors and the fans as well, and the love has been impressive. On the other hand, we’re keeping total focus on our work with the car and we’re sure that the AJ Foyt will be very competitive on the race”, says Leist.
